This is my second attempt at recording. When I retired some three years ago I had time on my hands. So I decided to get a set of songs together and go back into the studio. Out of the original 18 songs there are three survivors, Union miners, Old King Coal and Rolling home. The rest were ditched in favour of the present collection.
I have written three of the songs myself. Between July and October of 2011 I had a sudden burst of songwriting, the first song "The Barge boy" was written on a blazing hot July day in Tina's garden, the family were all out and I had complete peace and quiet, as they say the muse came over me and within twenty minutes I had four verses a chorus and the start of a tune. "Alec Auld" is a song that has been waiting to come out of me for a long time. Alec has always been somewhat of a hero figure to me, someone who stood up for what was right and stuck by his beliefs no matter what. There have been many songs written about the changing of the season's, "Celebrate the season's" is my slant on it.
I like singing with people who can sing, and in Tina Auld, Christine Connolly, Steve Last and Anthony Burke I have picked four people who fit together really well. Not only in vocal harmony but also in personality, we got on so well together and had some real good laughs along the way. They stuck with me through the ups and downs and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work that this group of friends put into this project to help bring it home.
My thanks to all the people who gave their kind permission to record their songs. Graeme Meek, Barry Goodman and John Bartlett. My apologies to those I haven't been able to contact.
As on all my cd's you can download all the pages and make your own cd in whatever format you wish.
